AGL powers cattle drive for second year
03 July 2009
AGL Energy has announced that it will be the major sponsor for the Bush to Burra Cattle Drive for a second consecutive year in 2009.
The AGL Bush to Burra Cattle Drive raises vital funds for health services and much needed medical equipment for communities in South Australia’s Mid North.
Ken Woolley, General Manager, AGL Power Development, said AGL saw the direct community benefits which flowed from the event last year and were keen to be heavily involved again.
"We are very pleased to be associated with the AGL Bush to Burra Cattle Drive for a second time,” Mr Woolley said.
“Thanks to the support of the local community, AGL is developing the Hallett complex of wind farms in the Mid North. The sponsorship of the AGL Bush to Burra Cattle Drive is part of AGL’s commitment to be a responsible corporate citizen in the local communities in which we invest, work and live.
“AGL has formed a close affinity with the Mid North region and to the people who live and work there.
“We value this relationship and look forward to continuing to build on these ties into the future,” Mr Woolley concluded.
AGL is Australia’s leading integrated renewable energy company. The 95 MW AGL Hallett 1 Wind Farm was commissioned in 2008, while the 71 MW AGL Hallett 2 Wind Farm will be commissioned in late 2009. Construction has now begun on AGL Hallett 4 Wind Farm (132 MW) and it’s due for completion in 2011.
The Regional Council of Goyder has also granted planning approval for Hallett 3 Wind Farm located on Mt Bryan.
The drive is being held on 1 to 5 October 2009, over five days and four nights. It’s not only significant for its good intentions; it also follows part of the historic stock droving route used by the legendary cattle baron, Sir Sidney Kidman.
Anyone is welcome to join the drive and people are encouraged to bring their own horse and camping gear. With a cost of $250 per day with own horse and a 10% discount if you book for the whole five days, the drive is good value. Horse owners paying $250 per day get three meals (‘real bush cooking’) plus live music by local and visiting artists each night.
There are 35 riding positions available each day.
The completion of the AGL Bush to Burra Cattle Drive will coincide with the Burra Show where all participants enjoy a night of music and festivities within the Burra Showgrounds.
