With AGL I’m delivering genuine sustainable solutions for big energy users. |
Meet Jon
NSW and Qld Sustainability Services Manager Team: Sustainability Services Qualifications and experience: B Engineering (Mechanical)
I manage a team of engineers and project managers to deliver energy efficiency and infrastructure to our major customers. It’s problem solving really - getting inside the skin of the business to understand how it ticks, then helping to improve its operations in ways that reduce the carbon footprint and get better sustainability outcomes. One day I’m with a brick manufacturer; the next day I could be at an oil refinery, or a major commercial building. So every day is different.
Whatever the project, the goal is to find solutions that are not just cost effective but sustainable. AGL really pioneered this service, first as a niche, and now it’s well and truly mainstream. AGL is absolutely serious about delivering genuine sustainable solutions for big energy users. I like being a part of that.

It’s not uncommon for our team to be assessing potential transactions worth several $100 million, which is quite exciting. |
Meet Bopha
Business Development Manager Team: Group Business Development (Finance) Qualifications and experience: B Economics, Grad Dip Applied Finance and Investment
I wanted to augment my government-owned enterprise background with blue chip public company experience. I think energy is an attractive industry to be in, because it’s really dynamic and varied, and AGL is the energy leader. Like all businesses in this capital constrained environment, AGL has to be very smart about what and how it invests its capital, and my job is to help them to make the right investments, through financial due diligence and analysis.
Investing in energy is a serious business. It’s not at all uncommon for our team to be assessing potential investment transactions in excess of several $100 million, which is quite exciting. I’m interacting with groups right across the organisation, so I’m learning new things about the energy business every day.

It’s very much – there’s the goal, now go and get it. That suits me, because I like the challenge. |
Meet David
Head of Land and Approvals Team: Gas and Power Development Qualifications and experience: BSc Surveying for Resource Development, Chartered Minerals & Environmental Management Surveyor (MRICS), Member Institute of Quarrying (MIQ)
I have broad experience across the resource development field from mining, extractive industries and now gas and power development focused in the areas of land and approvals. Having commenced my career and training in the UK I wanted to find a way to extend that here in Australia. Gas is a key resource for AGL and finding, securing and developing long term supplies beyond our existing gas contracts is critical to AGL’s success, and a central plank of its strategic plan.
I’m expected to be pretty independent, and there’s not a lot of day to day direction. It’s very much - there’s the goal, now go and get it. That suits me, because I like the challenge. Support is there when I need it, and I love the fact that I’m making real things happen for the business.

I just love the diversity and daily opportunities to contribute and make a difference. |
Meet Carolyn
Employee Communications Business Partner Team: People & Culture Qualifications and experience: Ass.Dip Events & Communication, Ass.Dip Accounting
I’m proud to work for a company that cares about its people and the community it operates in. My role as the Employee Communications Business Partner enables me to interact and communicate with all AGL employees.
The People & Culture team plays a much larger role than just human resources here at AGL. We have a strong focus on safety, engagement, wellbeing and communication to support AGL people in their roles.
Within my first six months I have played a part in feeding Christmas lunch to over 100 homeless people, volunteering, launching our new brand campaign and building an engaging communication and values program. I just love the diversity and daily opportunities to contribute and make a difference.

Being part of a leading energy company like AGL is very satisfying. |
Meet Paul
Information Services Officer Team: Torrens Island Power Station Business Services Qualifications and experience: Diploma of Computer and Information Science, qualified electrician I joined Torrens Island Power Station from Adelaide Airport, where I’d spent 20 years in the electrical field. As Information Services Officer I support around 200 users to access our computer systems and associated infrastructure to make sure we maintain TIPS’s record of high systems availability. I’m also often called on to give technical support to AGL people from other sites when they visit the power station.
Interacting with users at all levels gives me a tremendous appreciation for the work that’s done here, and being part of a leading energy company like AGL is very satisfying. To be surrounded by very talented people in a dynamic environment presents different challenges every day.

There’s definitely a career path here in the Contact Centre for those that want it. |
Meet Sharlene
Contact Centre Representative Division: Customer Operations Adelaide Experience: Manager of own part time cosmetics business
I was looking for a role that would allow me the flexibility to continue to grow my own business, but with regular hours. A lot of the skills I’ve developed outside AGL – like establishing rapport and problem solving are skills I use every day in my role in the Contact Centre.
In a recent 1:1 meeting my leader asked what I was interested in, and out of that came the opportunity to be a floor walker, providing first line support for people on the phone handling difficult calls. As long as you’re meeting your performance targets, I think AGL is really interested in growing people’s skills. There’s definitely a career path here in the Contact Centre for those that want it.

I love the vibrant environment of our call centre. |
Meet Julie
Contact Centre Representative Division: Customer Operations Adelaide Experience: 20 years in retail customer service. I wanted a job where I could use all my people experience, but grow some new skills myself. I take calls from residential and small business customers on the full range of enquiries, so every call is different. I’ve been trained on AGL’s new SAP system. The training was excellent and I feel really confident using it and explaining it to customers – after all, it’s new for them as well! I love the vibrant environment of our call centre and I really appreciate the conditions that come with working for AGL, like an onsite cafeteria and volunteering leave. I even had a flu shot, courtesy of AGL – I had no idea companies provided benefits like that! |
