AGL owns and operates several renewable landfill gas and biogas (sewage) generation facilities across Australia.
In addition to generating renewable energy, these facilities help to further reduce greenhouse gases by capturing and destroying methane (a greenhouse gas 21 times stronger than carbon dioxide).
Glenorchy City Council landfill gas extraction and generation (Tasmania)
AGL built, owns and operates a landfill gas extraction and generation facility at Glenorchy's Jackson Street Refuse Disposal Centre in South Hobart, Tasmania. The 1.6 MW facility is capable of providing enough power for the needs of around 1,900 households annually. The system reduces greenhouse gas emissions by around 45,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent annually.
